DCs instructed to act according to the constitution and law: Asif Nazrul
Deputy Commissioners (DCs) have no other use except serving the people and their welfare. They have been instructed to act according to their conscience, constitution and law, said Law and Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul.
The Law Adviser informed reporters after the fifth working session on the third day of the three-day Deputy Commissioners (DC) conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Tuesday (February 18).
The Law Adviser said, today's DC conference is a new experience for me. It is very urgent and important. Because they see the administration at the field level. No one knows better than them what problems there are in implementing the law. Today they told us that when those who extract sand from the sand fields of the country are caught, they get bail very quickly. In this regard, the Attorney General said that the job of the court is to grant bail in appropriate cases. Some such matters have come up today. We have sought their cooperation.
He said, we have informed them about the steps taken by the Law Ministry. For example, the government has many cases, and we have told them what steps they have taken in the wing where we are located in the case. At the same time, we have told them what can be done about the problem of space in the court where they have their DC office.
Asif Nazrul said, the most talented DCs of the country were working during the previous government. Such a huge resource of the state was used by the fascist government to oppress the people, to torture them, to justify their misdeeds. If we want to use this power of theirs for the service of the people, to maintain law and order, to provide land management, health, and education services; they have that ability.
He said, "We hope that whichever party comes to power in Bangladesh in the future, our administration cadre will use the unequal potential that it has to serve the people as stated in the constitution, instead of using it to oppress the people." This is my expectation.
In response to the question of what instructions he gave them to provide service, Dr. Asif Nazrul said, "There is no formula here, if they follow what is in the law, what is in the policy, what is in the constitution, they have no other work except serving and welfare of the people." So, we have only one thing to say, you act according to the law, act according to your conscience. The fact that they have been used as opponents of the people completely violates the law and the constitution.
