Death penalty for accused in Narayanganj housewife murder case

A court in Narayanganj has sentenced an accused to death in the case of murdering a housewife and looting her gold ornaments. The convict, Rubel Mia (35), has also been fined Tk 2 lakh.

The verdict was delivered on Sunday (July 26) afternoon by the District and Sessions Judge's Court of Narayanganj, presided over by Judge Md Abu Shamim Azad, in the presence of the accused. Rubel Mia is the son of Liton Mia from the North Panchani area of Matlab Uttar upazila in Chandpur district.

Court Police Inspector Md Abdus Samad confirmed the matter, stating that the judge pronounced the verdict in the presence of the accused.

According to the case documents, Rubel Mia murdered a woman named Safia Begum in the Jangir area of Rupganj upazila, Narayanganj, on January 22, 2021. After the murder, he fled with the gold chain and earrings the victim was wearing.

The victim's daughter, Ferdousi Begum Maya, filed a murder case at Rupganj Police Station. After reviewing the investigation and evidence, the court found Rubel Mia guilty and sentenced him to death along with a fine of Tk 2 lakh.
