Death penalty is appropriate justice for Sheikh Hasina: Akhtar Hossain
The National Citizen Party (NCP) Member-Secretary Akhtar Hossain has said that the death sentence handed down to Sheikh Hasina is the “appropriate justice” for crimes against humanity, urging the government to implement the verdict without any delay.
He made the remarks in a video message reacting to the International Crimes Tribunal’s death verdict against the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday (November 17).
Akhtar also called on the Indian government to return Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh instead of providing her shelter, saying "She must face the country’s justice system."
He claimed that enforcing the verdict would “set a global precedent.”
He alleged that the tribunal’s judgment proved Sheikh Hasina was responsible for ordering shootings, using lethal weapons, and deploying state forces to kill civilians. According to him, only a portion of her alleged crimes has been addressed in this verdict, and the rest should also be tried.
Akhtar added that executing the sentences of those responsible for the July uprising killings would create a “historic example” and bring peace to the souls of the victims.
