Death penalty to be sought in Ramisa murder case: Law Minister

The government will seek the maximum punishment in the case filed over the murder of child Ramisa, Law Minister Asaduzzaman said.

Speaking at a programme at the Shailkupa Upazila Parishad auditorium on Sunday morning (May 31), the minister said the prosecution will pursue the highest possible sentence against the accused based on available evidence.

“We expect that, based on the evidence we have, the accused will be ensured the maximum punishment,” he said.

The minister also spoke on constitutional reform efforts, saying the committee has sought five representatives from the opposition and is currently awaiting their decision.

Highlighting the drug menace, he described narcotics as a serious threat to society and the state, urging collective efforts to combat it and reiterating that drugs would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

He also outlined government welfare initiatives, including plans to distribute family cards to 40 million households nationwide. He said farmer cards have already been introduced in several areas and will be expanded gradually across the country. Plans are also underway to introduce government allowances for imams of mosques and priests of temples.

Local administration officials and district authorities were present at the event.
