Death sentence for two in Habiganj teenage girl murder case
The court has sentenced two accused to death in the case of raping and then murdering teenage girl Juba Akhtar in Nabiganj of Habiganj. Judge and District and Sessions Judge of Habiganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 Syeda Minhaz Um Munira pronounced this verdict around 3pm on Sunday (September 13).
The death-sentenced accused are Khalil Uddin and Golam Hosen of Harinagar village of Nabiganj upazila. People of the relevant parties of the case were present in court at the time of pronouncement of the verdict.
According to the case documents and court sources it is known that teenage girl Juba Akhtar was murdered in a paddy field of Bagaura area of Bara Bhakair (East) Union of Nabiganj upazila on the night of December 26, 2021. The next morning the locals saw her body lying in the field and informed the police. Later police went to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Habiganj Sadar Hospital for post-mortem.
A murder case was filed at Nabiganj police station from the side of the deceased’s family over this incident. Police informed that at one stage of the investigation information of the involvement of Khalil Uddin and Golam Hosen was found. After completing the investigation of the case charge sheet was submitted against them in court. Later the judicial proceedings of the case started at the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal.
According to the court documents one of the main accused of the case Khalil Uddin gave a confessional statement in court after interrogation. After reviewing the evidence presented by the state side and other documents in the judicial process the court found the two accused guilty.
After pronouncement of the verdict the court ordered death sentence against the two accused. This verdict has been given after the long judicial process of this case filed over the incident of raping and murdering teenage girl Juba Akhtar.
