Death toll from heavy rain, landslides rises to 58
The death toll from heavy rainfall, flash floods and landslides in seven districts of the country has risen to 58, with 40 others injured. The number of people affected by floods and waterlogging has reached 12,16,805, with 52,493 families stranded, according to an updated report from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief until 3:00 pm on Thursday, July 16.
The highest number of deaths occurred in Cox's Bazar, with 32 fatalities—19 locals and 13 Rohingya. Chattogram reported 15 deaths, Bandarban seven, Rangamati three and Moulvibazar one. One person remains missing in Cox's Bazar.
The affected districts are Khagrachhari, Rangamati, Bandarban, Cox's Bazar, Chattogram, Moulvibazar and Habiganj, with 57 upazilas and eight municipalities affected.
A total of 87 shelters have been opened in the seven districts, currently housing 849 people.
The government has allocated Tk 5.15 crore, 9,050 metric tonnes of rice, 4,200 bundles of corrugated iron sheets and Tk 1.26 crore for house construction as humanitarian assistance for the 64 districts from July 7 to 16.
