Death-row convict who escaped from Kashimpur Jail held in Chattogram
A death-row convict who escaped from Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur has been arrested in Chattogram.
The accused, identified as Md Bahadur Mia, 35, was arrested from an area under Akbar Shah Police Station in Chattogram city on Thursday afternoon by the Special Response Battalion (SRB).
Bahadur Mia is the son of Siraj Mia of Kanchan Nagar area in Chandanaish upazila of Chattogram. He was a fugitive convict in a case filed with Konabari Police Station under Gazipur Metropolitan Police.
SRB-7 Assistant Director (Media) A R M Mozzafar Hossain said Bahadur Mia, who had been sentenced to death, escaped from Kashimpur Jail on August 6, 2024. He later went into hiding in the Akbar Shah area of Chattogram.
Acting on a tip-off, SRB personnel conducted an operation in the area on Thursday afternoon and arrested him, the official said.
Bahadur Mia was later handed over to the Konabari Police Station of Gazipur Metropolitan Police for further legal proceedings, Mozzafar Hossain added.
