Decision to hand over Ctg port to foreigners will become a pain in the neck: 12-party alliance
The leaders of the 12-party alliance, which is a partner in the BNP's simultaneous movement, have commented that the decision to hand over Chattogram port to foreigners could become a pain in the neck in the future.
In a statement on Wednesday (November 19), they strongly condemned and protested against the unusual process of handing over all the country's ports including Chattogram, to foreigners.
The leaders of the 12-party alliance said that handing over the container terminal to a foreign company at an unusual speed will have a serious impact on the country's fragile economy and is against national interests. "This will seriously threaten the country's independence and sovereignty. There are questions of national interest and security associated with handing over the responsibility of managing the terminal port and port to foreigners."
They said that the interim government cannot take such steps in matters of state policy-making. The previous dictatorial government turned the country into a subservient state by sacrificing the country's interests. Therefore, such activities of the interim government at present are reminiscent of the past.
The leaders warned that any action against public opinion and public aspirations will only intensify the level of public anger.
The statement was signed by Chief Coordinator of the 12-Party alliance and Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar) Chairman Mustafa Jamal Haider, alliance spokesperson and Bangladesh LDP chairman Shahadat Hossain Selim, alliance coordinator and Bangladesh Jatiya Dal (BJD) chairman Syed Ehsanul Huda, Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam Bangladesh secretary general Dr. Golam Mohiuddin Ikram, Bikalpadhara Bangladesh Chairman Professor Nurul Amin Bepari, National Labour Party Chairman Lion Faruk Rahman, Bangladesh Kalyan Party Chairman Shamsuddin Parvez, Islami Oikya Jote Chairman Maulana Abdur Rakib, Islamic Party Secretary General Abul Kashem, Progressive Nationalist Party (PNP) Chairman Firoz Md.
