Decomposed body recovered from Cox's Bazar beach
Police have recovered a decomposed, headless and limbless body from Cox's Bazar sea beach after it washed ashore with the tide late Thursday night (July 9).
The body was found around 10:00pm at the Sugandha Point in the beach area, according to police.
Confirming the matter today (July 10), Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Mohammad Ali said the identity of the deceased has yet to be established, while efforts are underway to determine the cause of death.
The body has been sent to the Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy, he said.
Sub-Inspector Md Sarwar said the remains were in an advanced state of decomposition after being submerged in seawater for a prolonged period, making it impossible to immediately determine whether the victim was male or female.
The recovery comes a day after authorities retrieved the bodies of two women from the shores of Shah Porir Dwip and St Martin's Island in Teknaf. Police believe they were residents of Myanmar's Rakhine State who died after a boat sank at sea.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing to identify the victim and establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
