Deep depression intensifies into cyclone ‘Michaung’

The deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining area has intensified into a cyclonic storm “Michaung,”.

The weather system is likely to move northwestwards and intensify further, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said in a special bulletin on Sunday morning. It was centred at 6am about 1,575km southwest of Chattogram port, 1,525km southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 1,450km southwest of Mongla port, and 1,450km southwest of Payra port. The maritime ports have been advised to hoist distant warning signal number two.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 54km of the cyclone centre is about 62km per hour rising to 88km per hour in gusts. The sea will remain very rough near the cyclone centre.

All fishing boats and trawlers over the north Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
