Deep depression weakens, No. 3 Signal still in force at two ports

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has maintained local warning signal No. 3 at the Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar seaports as gusty to squally winds are expected along the country’s coastal areas under the influence of a weakening low-pressure system.

According to a special weather bulletin issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Tuesday (September 29), the deep depression over the North Andaman Sea and adjoining areas crossed the Myanmar coast near Kyainkto and weakened into a land depression.

At 6am on Tuesday, the system was positioned over Myanmar and adjoining east-central and northeast Bay of Bengal. It is expected to move further north-northwest and gradually weaken, the bulletin said.

Despite the system weakening, gusty or squally winds may continue over the northeast and east-central Bay of Bengal, the coastal areas near Bangladesh and around the Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar seaports. The sea is likely to remain rough, prompting the weather office to keep warning signal No. 3 in force at both ports.

Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northeast Bay of Bengal have been advised not to venture into the deep sea until further notice. They have also been asked to remain close to the coast and operate with caution.
