Dengue claims 6 more lives, 647 hospitalised in 24 hrs

Dengue continues to claim lives across the country, with six more deaths reported in the past 24 hours. During the same period, 647 new patients were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka and other districts.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) confirmed the figures in a press release issued by its Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room on Thursday (September 18).

According to the DGHS, of the newly admitted patients, 241 are undergoing treatment at different government and private hospitals in Dhaka, while the remaining patients were admitted to hospitals outside the capital.

Official data shows that between January 1 and December 31, 2024, a total of 114,000 dengue cases were recorded in Bangladesh, with 575 deaths. The previous year, in 2023, saw the country’s worst dengue outbreak, with 1,705 fatalities and 321,179 hospitalisations.
