Dengue claims another life, 406 more hospitalised in 24 hours

One more person has died from dengue in the past 24 hours, while 406 new patients have been hospitalized across the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

A press release issued on Wednesday by the DGHS Health Emergency Operations Center and Control Room reported that Barishal and Chattogram divisions recorded the highest number of new admissions.

Among the newly hospitalized patients, Barishal Division reported 98 cases, Chattogram Division 78, Dhaka Division (outside city corporations) 64, Dhaka South City Corporation 53, Dhaka North City Corporation 36, Khulna Division 35, Rajshahi Division 31, Rangpur Division 5, Mymensingh Division 4 and Sylhet Division 2.

In the same 24-hour period, 439 dengue patients were discharged after treatment. With this, the total number of recoveries this year stands at 12,225.

Since the beginning of 2025, a total of 13,188 people have been hospitalized due to dengue, while the death toll has risen to 51.

In 2024, a total of 101,214 dengue cases were recorded, with 575 fatalities. The previous year, 2023, saw the country’s worst dengue outbreak, with 321,179 hospitalizations and 1,705 deaths.

Health officials continue to urge citizens to remain vigilant, eliminate mosquito breeding grounds, and seek prompt medical attention if symptoms appear.
