Dengue hospitalisations hit record high in 24 hrs; 2 more die

Dengue cases in Bangladesh are surging, with 625 new patients admitted to hospitals in the last 24 hours—the highest single-day total this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) report on Wednesday (September 10).

The total number of hospitalisations due to dengue in 2025 has reached 36,096, the DGHS said.

Two more deaths were reported in the same period, bringing the year’s total fatalities to 139.

The victims—a two-year-old child and a 40-year-old adult—died while receiving treatment at Mugda Medical College Hospital and Islami Bank Hospital, respectively.

The DGHS said that in the first 10 days of September alone, 4,620 patients were admitted and 17 people died. Currently, 1,821 patients are hospitalised across the country, with 655 in Dhaka and 1,166 outside the capital.

Dhaka city reported 222 new cases in the last 24 hours. Other divisions recorded 109 in Dhaka division outside the city, 15 in Mymensingh, 112 in Chattogram, 17 in Khulna, 37 in Rajshahi, 14 in Rangpur, 96 in Barishal, and three in Sylhet.

July recorded the highest dengue deaths (41) and hospitalisations (10,684) this year. Other months also saw significant cases, including August with 10,496 admissions and 39 deaths.
