One more dengue death reported, 870 hospitalized in 24 hours

One more person has died of dengue in the last 24 hours. With this, the death toll from dengue this year has risen to 71. During the same period, 870 new dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals.


This information was given in the regular dengue bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Monday (17 August).


According to DGHS data, the highest number of dengue patients admitted to hospitals in the last 24 hours was 181 in Dhaka Division (outside the City Corporation area). Apart from this, 153 patients were admitted in Khulna Division, 146 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 102 in Barishal Division, 90 in Chattogram Division, 77 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 57 in Rajshahi Division, 51 in Mymensingh Division, and 13 in Rangpur Division.


Since the beginning of this year, a total of 24,848 people have been admitted to various hospitals across the country with dengue. Among them, 9,538 patients were admitted in the month of August alone. In July, 9,206 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals, and 2,907 in June.


According to DGHS counts, 71 people have died of dengue so far this year. Among them, 17 people died in August, 36 in July, 13 in June, one in May, and two each in January and February.


DGHS statistics show that the number of dengue patients admitted to hospitals in the country has been increasing rapidly in recent times. The number of dengue infections and deaths has increased significantly, especially in July and current August.
