Dense fog halts ferry services on Daulatdia–Paturia route
Ferry services on the Daulatdia–Paturia ferry route were suspended on Saturday morning (March 7) due to sudden dense fog.
The decision was taken by the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation at around 7:30am to avoid potential river accidents as visibility dropped sharply.
According to BIWTC sources, thick fog descended over the basins of the Padma River and Jamuna River after 7:00am, making beacon lights and channel marking points along the waterway difficult to see. As a result, the ferry movement became risky, prompting authorities to halt operations on the route.
Assistant Manager of Daulatdia Ghat, Jisanul Haque Topu, said the suspension was necessary due to reduced visibility caused by the fog. He added that three ferries are currently anchored at the Daulatdia Ferry Ghat.
Ferry services will resume once the fog lifts and visibility improves, he said.
