Depression forms over Bay of Bengal, BMD issues cautionary signal
The low-pressure system over the west-central Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression, prompting authorities to issue Signal No. 3 for several coastal areas.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the northern Bay of Bengal is currently rough, and strong to gale-force winds may affect coastal regions.
As of 6:00 am Thursday, the deep depression was located 875 km southwest of Chattogram sea port, 830 km southwest of Cox’s Bazar, 735 km southwest of Mongla, and 740 km southwest of Payra. It is expected to move further north-northwest.
Winds near the center of the system are blowing at up to 50 km/h, with gusts reaching 60 km/h.
Authorities have advised Signal No. 3 for Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra ports. All fishing vessels and trawlers in the northern Bay of Bengal have been instructed to navigate cautiously near the coast and seek safe shelter immediately if necessary.
Residents and coastal communities are urged to remain vigilant and follow official updates.
