Deputy AG, 3 Assistant AGs removed from office
The government has cancelled the appointments of one Deputy Attorney General and three Assistant Attorneys General, relieving them of their duties with immediate effect.
Separate notifications were issued by the Solicitor Wing of the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs on the president’s order.
According to the notifications, the appointment of Deputy Attorney General Zulfikar Alam Shimul has been revoked in the public interest. In a separate order, the appointments of Assistant Attorneys General ABM Ibrahim Khalil, Mohammad Ayub Ali (Ashrafi), and Md Montu Alam were also cancelled. All four were appointed during the tenure of the current interim government.
The order regarding the assistant attorneys general refers to a memorandum issued on August 28 last year, under which their appointments were made. Both decisions take effect immediately.
Deputy and Assistant Attorneys General represent the state in cases before the Appellate Division and the High Court Division of the Supreme Court.
An administrative official at the Attorney General’s Office, Md Nasir Uddin, said the office currently has around 98–99 Deputy Attorneys General and 234 Assistant Attorneys General.
