Deputy High Commissioner Shabab Bin Ahmed recalled to Dhaka
The government has recalled Shabab Bin Ahmed, Minister (Local) at the Bangladesh Embassy in the Netherlands, to Dhaka and cancelled his planned appointment as Deputy High Commissioner at the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata.
In an official order signed by Naurid Sharmin, director (Establishment) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Thursday (May 22) confirmed this.
The order directed Shabab to immediately leave his current post at the Bangladesh Embassy in The Hague and return to headquarters in Dhaka. It also stated that his previous transfer order, issued on November 21 for the Kolkata posting, has been officially cancelled.
The move follows controversy surrounding Shabab Bin Ahmed’s recent decision to suspend the traditional Eid-ul-Azha animal sacrifice at the Bangladesh Mission in Kolkata, a practice that had been observed for years. His action sparked significant backlash within the mission and on social media, with many criticising the decision as unprofessional and insensitive to cultural and religious traditions.
