DGHS issues 11 guidelines to prevent COVID-19 spread
In response to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in several countries and to prevent a similar outbreak in Bangladesh, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has issued an 11-point advisory aimed at curbing the transmission of the virus.
At a press briefing held Wednesday afternoon, DGHS Director General Professor Dr. Md. Abu Jafar outlined the current COVID-19 situation in the country and formally announced the guidelines.
In his statement, Dr. Jafar noted a rise in viral infections and confirmed the identification of several new sub-variants of the coronavirus. He emphasized the heightened risk of transmission through international travelers and stated that all land, sea, and air ports have been instructed to strengthen surveillance and strictly enforce health protocols through the International Health Regulations (IHR) desks.
To raise awareness and promote public health, the DGHS urged the media to widely disseminate the following directives:
Public guidelines to prevent COVID-19 transmission; avoid public gatherings as much as possible. If attendance is necessary, wearing a mask is mandatory. Wear a mask to protect yourself from respiratory illnesses. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your elbow when coughing or sneezing. Dispose of used tissues immediately in a covered trash bin. Wash hands frequently with soap and water or use hand sanitizer for at least 20 seconds. Avoid touching your face, especially eyes, nose, and mouth, with unwashed hands. Maintain at least three feet of distance from people who are ill and avoid direct contact.
Guidelines for suspected COVID-19 patients; Stay home if you have a fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, until full recovery. Encourage the patient to wear a mask to cover their nose and mouth. Caregivers should also wear masks and maintain proper precautions. If necessary, contact the nearest hospital, the IEDCR hotline (01401-196293), or the national health helpline (16263) for assistance.
