Dhaka and Beijing working to take relations to new heights: PM's Adviser

Bangladesh and China are working closely to take bilateral relations to new heights, said Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir. He said new opportunities for cooperation have emerged in the economy, trade, investment and supply chains, which will further strengthen relations between the two countries in the coming decades.

He was speaking at the inaugural session of the 'Comparative Governance Forum 2026', an international training programme organised by the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) in the capital on Monday. The programme is jointly organised by BIISS and China's Fudan University .

Humayun Kabir said emphasis is being given to utilising China's advanced technology and investment opportunities for industrialisation, employment generation and export diversification in Bangladesh. In his view, the Prime Minister's recent Beijing visit has laid the foundation for taking bilateral relations further forward .

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen said the Prime Minister's Beijing visit has opened new horizons of mutual understanding and cooperation between the two countries. He said China is optimistic about the Bangladesh-China Economic Corridor and the Teesta project .

The event was informed that the two countries have agreed to increase coordination in industry, infrastructure and development strategies under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) to further strengthen the foundation of relations for the next 50 years . Additionally, important consensus has been reached on river development, the China-Bangladesh-Myanmar Economic Corridor and various cooperative issues .

Also speaking at the event was Fudan University Vice-President Chen Zhimin. The session was presided over by BIISS Director General Major General A S M Ridwanur Rahman .
