Dhaka buses to operate under unified system with fixed routes-stops
All buses in Dhaka will be brought under a single management system, according to a statement from the Press Wing of the interim government’s Chief Adviser.
The announcement was made through a statement posted on the Chief Adviser’s verified Facebook page late Tuesday night (August 26).
According to the statement, bus transportation in Dhaka has long been operating without proper regulation. As a result, passengers face daily issues such as traffic congestion, accidents, fare overcharging, and other challenges. While young and physically able passengers can still manage to board buses, the situation is much more difficult for women, children, and the elderly.
It also mentioned that buses running on unplanned or ineffective routes are one of the main causes of traffic congestion in Dhaka. This leads to an annual financial loss of about 37,000 crore taka and wastes around 3.2 million working hours every day.
According to the Press Wing, under the new system, all buses will be required to follow designated routes and stops. This move aims to restore order to the transport sector, enhance public transport services, reduce fare-related fraud, and ultimately lessen traffic congestion and disorder. Additionally, passenger safety and comfort are expected to improve.
