Dhaka Cantonment's MES building officially declared temporary prison
The government has temporarily declared a building in Dhaka Cantonment as a prison, a notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed on Monday.
Although the notification was issued on Sunday (12 October), it was made public today by the Prisons-1 branch of the Ministry. The document was signed by Md. Hafiz Al Asad, Deputy Secretary of the Security Services Division, under the directive of the President.
The notification states that, under Section 541(1) of the Bangladesh Criminal Procedure Code, 1898, and Section 3(b) of The Prisons Act, 1894, the ‘MES’ Building No. 54, located north of Bashar Road in Dhaka Cantonment, is to be temporarily used as a prison.
The order, issued with the approval of the relevant authorities, takes immediate effect. However, the notification did not provide details on the purpose for which the building will be used as a temporary prison.
