Dhaka ready for Yunus-Modi meeting in Bangkok, awaiting Delhi's response

Bangladesh is ready for the meeting of the interim government's Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC summit to be held in the Thai capital Bangkok. Dhaka is waiting for a positive response from India regarding this meeting.

Foreign Secretary Md Jasim Uddin said this at a press conference organized by the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday (March 25) regarding the Chief Adviser's upcoming visit to China and Thailand.

Responding to a question on the possibility of the Yunus-Modi meeting on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC summit in Bangkok, the Foreign Secretary said, "We consider any meeting at the top level with any country important." We are taking this meeting seriously in the context of the current context of our relations with India and we hope that if this meeting is held, the stagnation that has been created in our bilateral relations will be broken.

Jasim Uddin said, from our side, we can say that we are ready for this meeting. From the Indian side, we are waiting for a positive answer.

Dhaka is ready for the Yunus-Modi meeting, but is Delhi not ready? In response to the question, the Foreign Secretary said, Delhi will tell whether Delhi is ready or not. We will wait for this meeting.

Recently, Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said in a meeting of the parliamentary panel in New Delhi that Bangladesh's request to organize a meeting between Dr. Yunus and Indian Prime Minister Modi is being considered.

According to the Indian Foreign Minister, those involved in the diplomatic arena in Dhaka are seeing the possibility of a Yunus-Modi meeting in Bangkok. They say that this meeting will help bring about positive changes in easing the tensions between Bangladesh and India after August 5. And it will be good for both countries. Even if the Yunus-Modi meeting does not take place in Bangkok for some reason, it is certain that they will meet.

The sixth BIMSTEC summit will be held in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, from April 2 to 4. The chief advisor to the interim government, Nobel laureate economist Dr. Muhammad Yunus, will attend the summit. He will go to Bangkok to attend the summit on April 3. The head of government will attend the BIMSTEC summit on April 4.
