According to data released by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), the city recorded 121 murders, 248 robberies, 1,068 thefts, and an average of 70 extortion cases per month between January and June this year.

A total of 33 snatching incidents were also reported across the city’s 50 police stations during this period.

At a press conference held Wednesday (July 30) at the DMP Media Center, DC Media Mohammad Talebur Rahman presented the figures and stated, "Despite the numbers, the DMP considers the overall law and order situation in the capital to be stable."

He emphasized ongoing efforts to ensure public safety, including increased patrols and intelligence-based operations. In the past 24 hours alone, the DMP deployed 441 patrol teams, conducted multiple check posts, and arrested 419 individuals linked to various criminal activities, including robbery, theft, drug trafficking, and outstanding warrants.

The DMP has also issued directives to strengthen security in the lead-up to the upcoming national elections. Officials say they are on high alert to prevent any attempts to disrupt public order.

Addressing reports of unauthorized mediations and political gatherings at police stations, Rahman stated, "Any such activities are prohibited and would prompt disciplinary action."

"The police force is receiving additional training and remains committed to maintaining law and order in the city," he affirmed.
