Dhaka soaked by 28mm rain, storm likely in 14 regions
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast thunderstorms and gusty winds across 14 regions of the country, while predicting continued rainfall in and around the capital until Friday afternoon (July 10).
The BMD also said that the capital recorded 28mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours.
According to the latest weather bulletin, issued for the period from 5:00am to 1:00pm, temporary gusty or squally winds with speeds of 45-60 km/h, accompanied by rain or thundershowers, may sweep over Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Kushtia, Jashore, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar and Sylhet.
The Met Office has advised river ports in the affected regions to hoist Local Cautionary Signal No. 1.
For the capital, the BMD said Dhaka and adjoining areas are expected to experience partly cloudy to overcast skies with intermittent rain until 1:00pm. Winds may blow from the south or southeast at 10-15 km/h, while daytime temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.
The weather office said that the temperature in Dhaka was 26.2 degrees Celsius at 6:00am on Friday, while relative humidity reached 97 percent. Sunset in the capital is expected at 6:50pm.
