Dhaka will be transformed into a greener and cleaner city, with a focus on urban beautification and sustainability, the administrator of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Md. Abdus Salam said.

He made the remarks while inaugurating a beautification project involving the installation of flower plants and decorative pots along road medians and footpaths from Gulistan Zero Point to Hotel InterContinental on Thursday (April 30).

As part of the initiative, the DSCC administrator said the stretch from Gulistan to the InterContinental intersection would be turned into a “model road” within one month.

Outlining his vision, Salam said he aims to restore greenery across the capital, inspired by the tree-rich landscape of old Dhaka. He added that the plan aligns with the government’s broader goal of developing Dhaka into a “green and clean” city.

Referring to the current economic context, he noted that Bangladesh’s economy has been affected by tensions in the Middle East but said development efforts would continue.

Emphasising public participation, he urged residents of Dhaka to plant at least one tree each to help make the city more livable.

The initiative also includes plans to improve the environment and aesthetics around key areas, including Dhanmondi Lake, as part of a wider urban transformation effort.
