The University of Dhaka authorities have announced temporary restrictions on the entry of outsiders and tighter vehicle controls across the campus during the FIFA World Cup 2026, citing security concerns and the need to maintain order during the tournament.

In an emergency notice issued by the university’s Proctor Office on Wednesday (June 24), officials said the measures were being introduced to ensure the safety of students and the wider university community as football-related gatherings and public interest increase throughout the World Cup period.

Under the new directive, access through major campus entry points—including Shahbagh, Doel Chattar, Burn Unit intersection, Shibbari Crossing, Fuller Road, Palashi Mor and Nilkhet—will be restricted for vehicles that do not carry university authorization.

Only vehicles bearing Dhaka University stickers and those providing essential services will be allowed entry.

Exemptions include ambulances, medical personnel, patients, journalists, ride-sharing services, food delivery vehicles, online shopping delivery services and other government vehicles.

The university also said that public transport and heavy vehicles will remain subject to existing restrictions throughout the tournament.

Authorities noted that the measures may be reviewed and adjusted based on stakeholder feedback, operational requirements and the evolving situation on the ground.
