Rail services between Dhaka and Mymensingh were suspended on Friday morning (August 8) after four coaches of the Dhaka-bound Jamalpur Commuter train derailed just before entering Gafargaon Railway Station.

The incident occurred around 9:00am, disrupting train operations on one of the country's key rail corridors.

Railway officials confirmed that the locomotive remained on the tracks, and no casualties or major damage have been reported so far.

Mymensingh Railway Station Superintendent Abdullah Al Harun said senior railway officials were on their way to the site, while a relief train was being prepared to recover the derailed coaches and restore normal operations.

Train services on the Dhaka–Mymensingh route will remain suspended until the recovery work is completed, he added.

According to eyewitnesses, a loud noise was heard moments before the four coaches immediately behind the locomotive left the tracks as the train approached Gafargaon station.

Railway authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the derailment.
