Dhaka-Mymensingh train services resume after 90-minute blockade

Train services on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route resumed after a nearly 90-minute disruption on Wednesday (August 12) when local residents blocked the railway line at Moshakhali station in Gafargaon, demanding a permanent stop for the intercity Jamuna Express.

The protesters stopped the Dhaka-bound Jamuna Express at around 7:20am near Moshakhali, about five kilometres from Gafargaon Railway Station, bringing train movement along the route to a halt.

Police later reached the spot and persuaded the protesters to clear the tracks. The train resumed its journey at around 8:55am, restoring normal rail services on the route.

Mymensingh Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Akhtar Hossain said residents had been demonstrating for the past 10 to 12 days to press for a permanent stop for the Jamuna Express at Moshakhali station.

“Today, they stopped the train from the morning. Police later persuaded them to leave the railway line,” he said.

The officer added that authorities were working to restore normalcy following the blockade.
