Dhaka’s air relatively better today, Kampala most polluted

Dhaka’s air quality was in the moderate category on Saturday morning, while Kampala, the capital of Uganda, ranked as the world’s most polluted city, according to the latest Air Quality Index (AQI) data.

As of 9:02am on Saturday (August 8), Dhaka ranked 24th on IQAir’s list of cities with the worst air quality worldwide, with an AQI score of 76. Kampala topped the ranking, with air quality classified as unhealthy.

According to IQAir’s air-quality scale, an AQI score of 0–50 is considered good, while 51–100 is classified as moderate. Dhaka’s score of 76 therefore places the capital in the moderate range.

An AQI score of 101–150 is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups, while 151–200 is classified as unhealthy for everyone. Scores between 201 and 300 indicate very unhealthy air, while readings above 300 are considered hazardous.

Although Dhaka’s air quality remained relatively better than that of many other major cities on Saturday morning, the capital continues to experience fluctuating pollution levels, particularly due to traffic emissions, construction dust and other urban sources.
