Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the ministry of environment, forest and climate change, has announced that the new headquarters of the Department of Environment (DoE) will be constructed as Dhaka’s first government green building.

She made these remarks at the Annual Development Programme (ADP) implementation review meeting, held on Sunday at the environment ministry’s conference room in Bangladesh secretariat.

She said, it will be established as an environmental centre of excellence. The building will incorporate green technologies such as rainwater harvesting, solar power and STP. Guidance from the garments sector, which has expertise in green building, will also be taken into account.

The adviser stated that DoE-owned buildings would be constructed in industrial zones, including Gazipur, to strengthen environmental protection activities at the local level. She assured provision of adequate transport facilities for enforcement activities.

Emphasising timely and proper implementation of development projects, she said delays or negligence in government initiatives hinder public expectations. She urged all concerned to carry out their duties with sincerity and efficiency.

The meeting was attended by environment secretary Dr Farhina Ahmed, additional secretary (Climate Change) Mohammad Navid Shafiullah, additional secretary (administration & development) Md Khairul Hasan, and DoE director general Dr Md Kamruzzaman, along with various project directors.
