Dhaka-Sylhet highway blocked over demand to arrest murder suspects

Locals have blocked the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Brahmanbaria's Sarail upazila, demanding the swift arrest of the accused in the murder of teenager Jihad Mia, 15. Hundreds of men and women have been participating in the demonstration since 9:30 am on Sunday, July 19, at the Kuttapara intersection in the Sadar union.

According to local sources, teenager Jihad Mia was hacked to death in Kuttapara village on July 10. A murder case was filed, but police have yet to make any arrests. The locals, angered by the lack of progress, took to the streets.

The blockade has halted traffic on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway, causing long queues of vehicles on both sides.

Sarail Upazila Executive Officer and Sarail Police Station Officer-in-Charge visited the spot to control the situation and speak with the protesters.

As of the latest information, the highway blockade was ongoing until 11:00 am. Protesters demanded that those involved in the killing be arrested and brought to justice quickly.
