Dhanmondi high-rise fire, woman climbs down pipe to escape
Panic spread after a fire broke out in a multi-storey building in the capital's Dhanmondi area 27. The fire service received the report of the fire at 5:50pm on Wednesday (June 10). Two units reached the spot and started working and brought the fire under control at 6:42pm.
Two women trapped inside the building during the fire tried to break the window glass. One of them walked from one end of the cornice to the other and climbed down a few floors down the pipe and finally used a ladder brought by locals to safely reach the ground. The other woman was later seen entering the building through the window again. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
Farida Yasmin, duty officer of the fire service's control room, said the fire started in the roof room of a five-storey building on Saat Masjid Road.
No information was immediately available on the cause of the fire, the extent of the damage and casualties.
