BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Thursday (September 4) accused elements in the country of maintaining a “dictatorial mentality” reminiscent of Sheikh Hasina, calling it a major obstacle to democratic culture.

Speaking at a meeting at the National Press Club Auditorium, he said, “Even though Hasina has left, some people with her mentality remain. They cannot tolerate dissent, create mobs, and force others to obey, which is not democratic behavior.”

Amir Khasru emphasized the importance of political tolerance and reform for a “new Bangladesh,” noting that consensus should guide policy implementation while differences should be resolved through the people’s verdict.

He added that those opposing participation in elections are echoing Sheikh Hasina’s tone, highlighting the continued presence of undemocratic attitudes in the political system.
