Diploma engineers and students blocked the railway in Gazipur to protest the allocation of a 33 percent quota for BSc engineers in the recruitment of sub-assistant engineers, halting train services on the Dhaka–Rajshahi route.

The demonstration began around 10:30am in Bhurulia on Tuesday morning (February 3), when protesters, organised by the Diploma Engineers Welfare Foundation, marched from Shimultoli and occupied the railway line.

The blockade disrupted train schedules and caused inconvenience for passengers.

The protesters demanded the immediate withdrawal of the quota proposal, arguing that it would undermine the technical education system, and called for fair consideration of diploma engineers’ claims.

Joydebpur Railway Station police outpost in-charge Kaiyum Ali confirmed that several trains were stranded at multiple stations due to the blockade.
