Dipu Das killing: Ringleader Yasin Arafat arrested
Police have arrested Yasin Arafat, the alleged ringleader in the killing of Dipu Chandra Das, 28, a worker at Pioneer Knitwear BD Limited in Valuka of Mymensingh.
He was taken into custody from Sarulia area under Demra Police Station on Wednesday afternoon (January 7) with assistance from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Yasin, 25, son of Gazi Mia, is a resident of South Hobirbari (Koraitola Mor) in Valuka. He reportedly led the crowd that attacked Dipu at the factory gate and played a central role in dragging his body to the Square Masterbari area and setting it on fire.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration & Finance) Md Abdullah Al Mamun, Yasin had been serving as an imam at Shekhabari Mosque and teaching at Madina Tahfizul Quran Madrasa in Kashor for the past 18 months. After the December 18 killing, he went into hiding for 12 days in various madrassas in Dhaka, even taking up a teaching position at ‘Suffa Madrasa’ under a false identity.
So far, 21 people have been arrested in connection with the case. Nine of the detainees have given confessional statements under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code in court.
