Directive to DCs to prevent artificial crisis of LPG

Iqbal Hasan Mahmud, Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, has directed the district administrators (DCs) to examine whether LPG is being sold at higher prices by creating an artificial crisis anywhere in the country.

He gave this directive at an online meeting held with the district administrators at the Secretariat on Wednesday (September 30).

The minister said that there is no shortage in the supply of LPG in the country. However, LPG may be sold at higher prices by creating an artificial crisis in some areas. The DCs have been directed to examine why the talk of crisis is being heard somewhere and why extra prices are being charged despite the supply remaining normal, and to send a report with information and evidence.

He informed that after receiving information from the district administrators, necessary measures will be taken by holding a meeting with the importers and concerned stakeholders. Initiatives will be taken to increase supply in those areas where less supply is received.

Iqbal Hasan Mahmud warned that measures will be taken against those concerned if an artificial crisis is created or if LPG is sold at a price higher than the price fixed by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC).

The energy minister also directed the district administrators to remain more alert and cautious to keep the LPG supply situation normal.
