The Cabinet Division has issued a directive to increase the use of solar power across government offices. A circular in this regard was issued on Monday.

Signed by Tania Afroz, Deputy Secretary of the Cabinet Division, the circular states that the majority of electricity used for official purposes in Bangabhaban, the Cabinet Division, the Prime Minister's Office, the Planning Commission, and the Finance Division must be sourced from solar power. Other government offices have also been instructed to gradually ensure the maximum utilization of solar energy.

The circular specifies that these instructions will take effect immediately.

Earlier, on August 3, during a meeting on solar energy held at the Secretariat, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman directed the phased installation of solar panels on key government buildings. This initiative has been undertaken to tackle the energy crisis and increase the use of renewable energy in the country.

During that meeting, instructions were also given to provide government support for the import of essential raw materials used in producing solar inverters in the country. Additionally, emphasis was placed on creating an effective economic model to make solar power more affordable, accessible, and profitable for the general public.
