Disagreements to be noted in final consensus document: Ali Riaz

Professor Dr. Ali Riaz, Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, has said that while most issues in the ongoing discussions to establish a national consensus have reached the decision-making stage, some disagreements remain. These will be recorded in the final consensus document.

Speaking at the opening of the 16th day of the commission’s meeting held this morning at the Foreign Service Academy, Dr. Riaz said the commission aims to reach consensus by July 31.

Representatives from various political parties attended the meeting.

“Decisions need to be made quickly within the next 10 days,” Dr. Riaz urged. “There is no room for prolonged discussions. Taking into account the Liberation War, democratic movements, and the sacrifices of students, we call on all parties to come to an agreement.”

He added that the commission is presenting only the reforms it considers important and does not want to impose anything by force.

Today’s session will focus on the Prime Minister holding multiple posts and the core principles of state governance.
