Discussion surrounds Jamaat ameer's 'Game of Thrones' election banner
A banner put up at various intersections in Chattogram city has sparked widespread discussion in political and social circles. The banner features a picture of Jamaat-e-Islami's Ameer, Dr Shafiqur Rahman, and uses the popular phrase "Winter Is Coming" from the hit TV series 'Game of Thrones'.
The banner, seen in areas like Baropol and Chawkbazar in Chattogram, depicts Dr Shafiqur Rahman holding a sword-shaped scale. The top of the banner reads 'Winter Is Coming', with 'Dadu Fan Club Chattogram' credited at the bottom. The banner has also generated significant interest and debate on social media.
However, leaders have confirmed that there is no organisational link between the banner and Jamaat-e-Islami or Islami Chhatra Shibir. Zahidul Alam Joy, publicity and media secretary of Chhatra Shibir Chattogram metropolitan south branch, said such pictures had gone viral on fan pages on social media, from which someone may have printed and displayed them as banners.
Morshedul Alam Chowdhury, assistant secretary of Chattogram metropolitan Jamaat, stated that he had not heard about the matter beforehand and that no such banner had been put up through an organisational decision. He added that an inquiry was being made as the matter was being discussed.
Notably, Jamaat Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman travelled to Chattogram via Cox's Bazar on Monday, February 3, as part of a nationwide election campaign tour. It is presumed that the banners were put up in connection with this visit, during which he addressed five public rallies.
