District administration to collect unsold hides in Sylhet
The district administration will collect unsold sacrificial animal hides in Sylhet through volunteers if they remain unsold. Deputy Commissioner Md Sarwar Alam has urged people to sell hides quickly to protect 'national assets'.
The deputy commissioner made the call at a press conference at the DC office conference room on Tuesday morning, May 26.
Anyone unable to sell their hides should inform the district administration, Sarwar Alam said, adding that volunteers will then collect the hides. The administration will give the highest priority to ensuring that this national asset is not wasted under any circumstances.
The target this year is to collect hides from approximately 70,000 to 85,000 sacrificial animals in Sylhet district. The government has allocated 385 tonnes of salt to assist in hide preservation in Sylhet district.
Considering environmental and public health concerns, requests have been made not to sacrifice animals near schools, colleges, playgrounds and tourist centres, he said. Additionally, special arrangements have been made for the disposal of sacrificial waste in the Sylhet City Corporation area. Sylhet City Corporation will remove waste within eight hours of the sacrifice.
The deputy commissioner also said a separate meeting will be held in the afternoon to ensure the safety of tourists visiting Sylhet for Eid-ul-Azha. Necessary measures will be taken for the security of visitors to tourist centres during the Eid holidays, and law enforcement will remain active to maintain overall law and order.
Officials from various departments were present at the press conference.
