The Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) has handed over the bodies of six unidentified individuals to the charitable organization Anjuman Mufidul Islam. The bodies were recovered following the July 2024 mass uprising and had remained unclaimed in the hospital morgue for over a year.

The handover was completed on Thursday afternoon, according to hospital sources. With no relatives or acquaintances coming forward during the past year, the victims are being buried today as unidentified persons at the Jurain graveyard in the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Joint Commissioner Faruq Ahmed confirmed the development and stated that the bodies were aged between 22 and 32. Among the deceased was one woman. One of the victims has been partially identified as Enamul. However, due to the severe decomposition of their skin, fingerprint identification was not possible. Authorities have preserved DNA samples in the hope that future advancements or familial matches may help establish their identities.

According to the head of DMCH's Forensic Department, the bodies were brought to the hospital between August 7 and 14 last year. Preliminary forensic reports indicate that one individual died from a gunshot wound, while the remaining five were killed by blunt force trauma.

The mass uprising of July 2024 led to several casualties, many of whom remain unidentified, underscoring the ongoing challenges of ensuring accountability and providing closure to affected families.
