DMP arrests 3 over multi-crore embezzlement at Flight Expert
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested three individuals suspected of involvement in a massive embezzlement scandal linked to Flight Expert, a well-known online travel agency.
The arrests came after the company’s CEO allegedly went into hiding amid accusations of siphoning off crores of taka from customers. The arrested suspects are Sakib Hossain, Sayeed Ahmed, and Shahadat Hossain, confirmed Hussain Md Farabi, Assistant Commissioner of Motijheel Zone.
The case was filed late Saturday night at Motijheel Police Station by customer Bikash Sarker, who accused five individuals: the three arrested men, Flight Expert CEO Salman Bin Rashid Shah Sayeem, and his father MA Rashid.
“We are actively searching for the other accused,” said AC Farabi.
Earlier, one of the arrested men, Sayeed Ahmed, filed a General Diary (GD) alleging that CEO Salman Bin Rashid Shah Sayeem fled the country. The GD also raised concerns about the financial risks facing both customers and suppliers, and mentioned that some staff members had received threats from aggrieved clients.
Flight Expert’s website remains offline, and repeated attempts to reach CEO Salman have failed.
Flight Expert was acquired by Evaly, an e-commerce platform that later shut down amid fraud allegations, on May 29, 2021.
