DMP arrests 419 in 24-hour crackdown, files 71 cases across Dhaka

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 419 people and registered 71 cases during coordinated operations across the capital over the past 24 hours, as law enforcement intensified its ongoing crime prevention drive.

The figures were disclosed on Monday (August 3) in a press release signed by Niaz Mehdi, additional deputy commissioner of the DMP's Media and Public Relations Division.

According to the statement, the highest number of arrests was made in Mirpur Division, where 96 suspects were detained. The remaining arrests included 66 in Tejgaon, 48 in Gulshan, 46 in Wari, 44 in Uttara, 43 in Lalbagh, 39 in Motijheel, 28 in Ramna, and nine by the Detective Branch (DB).

Police also recovered a large cache of suspected stolen property, communication equipment, narcotics and cash during the operations.

The seized items included 21 mobile phones, 14 laptops, 28 VoIP machines, 4,846 SIM cards, 52 cable connectors, 16 data connector machines, a power supply unit, a CCTV camera, 12 laptop chargers, a private car, and Tk 209,700 in cash.

Officers also confiscated 26 bottles of foreign liquor, along with significant quantities of illegal drugs, including 14 kilograms of cannabis, 914 yaba tablets and 350.8 grams of heroin.

The DMP said the recoveries were made during raids conducted in different police station jurisdictions across the capital. Legal proceedings against those arrested are currently underway.
