DMP arrests 431 in 24 hours; recovers weapons, drugs

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 431 individuals during special drives across various parts of the capital over the past 24 hours. The operation also led to the recovery of a foreign pistol, a large quantity of drugs, mobile phones and other evidence. Additionally, 70 cases were filed during this period.

DMP Media and Public Relations Division Additional Deputy Commissioner Niaz Mehedi provided the information on Sunday (August 2).

According to DMP, among those arrested, 39 were from the Ramna division, 24 from Lalbagh, 45 from Wari, 40 from Motijheel, 79 from Tejgaon, 101 from Mirpur, 44 from Gulshan, 47 from Uttara, 9 from the Detective Branch (DB) and 3 from the Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit.

During the raids, police recovered one foreign pistol, two empty magazines, 230 grams of cannabis, 14,142 pieces of yaba, 156 grams of heroin, 31 mobile phones, a private car and an old camera. One victim was also rescued.

DMP said the operations were carried out in various police station areas as part of regular crime suppression drives in the capital. The recovered items have been seized, and legal action is being taken against those arrested under relevant laws.
