DMP arrests 438 in 24-hour anti-crime drive across Dhaka

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 438 people and filed 86 cases during a 24-hour anti-crime operation across the capital, police said on Wednesday (September 2).

DMP Deputy Commissioner for Media and Public Relations Md Akter Hossain disclosed the figures on September 2, saying the arrests were made during raids in different areas under the city’s police stations.

Of those arrested, 33 were detained in the Ramna division, 30 in Lalbagh, 65 in Wari, 43 in Motijheel, 78 in Tejgaon, 116 in Mirpur, 37 in Gulshan and 31 in Uttara. One person was arrested by the Detective Branch and four by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit (CTTC).

Police also seized 1,055 yaba tablets, 14 packets of cannabis, 26 packets of heroin, nine mobile phones, a knife, a cutter, Tk 111,589 in cash and a fake student identity card during the operation.

Akter Hossain said the suspects were arrested from different parts of the capital along with drugs and other items recovered during the raids.

Legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are underway, he added.
