DMP arrests 440 in 24-hour Dhaka crackdown

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 440 people in a 24-hour operation across the capital, filing 46 cases during the drive, police said on Monday (August 24).

The arrests were made in separate raids conducted across different police divisions, according to Niaz Mehedi, additional deputy commissioner of the DMP's Media and Public Relations Division.

The arrests included 29 people from the Ramna division, 45 from Lalbagh, 50 from Wari, 36 from Motijheel, 67 from Tejgaon, 127 from Mirpur, 31 from Gulshan, 50 from Uttara and five from the Detective Branch.

Police also recovered a foreign-made pistol, a magazine, six rounds of ammunition, a sword, a knife and a grenade during the operations.

The raids also led to the seizure of 12.5kg of cannabis, 39,127 yaba tablets, 3.2 grams of powdered yaba, a motorcycle, nine mobile phones and Tk3,000 in cash. Two victims were also rescued during the operations.

DMP officials said the raids were conducted across various police station areas in the capital and that legal proceedings against those arrested are underway.
