DMP arrests 458, files 64 cases in 24-hour drive

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 458 individuals involved in various crimes during special drives in the capital over the past 24 hours. A total of 64 cases were filed during this period.

A large quantity of drugs, arms, counterfeit notes and other evidence was recovered during the operations.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of DMP's Media and Public Relations Division Niaz Mehedi provided the information on Tuesday, August 4.

He said among those arrested, 34 were from Ramna Division, 37 from Lalbagh, 49 from Wari, 36 from Motijheel, 57 from Tejgaon, 135 from Mirpur, 31 from Gulshan, 71 from Uttara, 6 from the Detective Branch (DB) and 2 from the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit.

Niaz Mehedi said 11 kg 980 grams of cannabis, 6,336 yaba pills, 90 bottles of phensedyl, one one-shooter gun, one samurai sword, 17 mobile phones, 30 blank cheque book leaves, Tk 1,080 in cash and counterfeit notes worth Tk 28 lakh were recovered from the arrestees.

He further said the arrestees were picked up during regular drives conducted in various police station areas of the capital. Legal action against them is underway.
