DMP arrests 470 in Dhaka crackdown, 40 cases filed

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 470 people and filed 40 cases during a 24-hour anti-crime drive across the capital, police said on Sunday (August 23).

The arrests were made during separate operations in different areas of Dhaka, according to Niaz Mehedi, additional deputy commissioner of DMP's Media and Public Relations Division.

Of those arrested, 21 were from the Ramna division, 38 from Lalbagh, 49 from Wari, 64 from Motijheel, 57 from Tejgaon, 137 from Mirpur, 45 from Gulshan and 58 from Uttara. The Detective Branch also arrested one person.

Police said they recovered 262 yaba tablets and 10 kg of cannabis during the operation. Other seized items included three pieces of foil paper, five gas lighters, two yaba-use pipes, one yaba-use cork and two yaba-use coins.

Five mobile phones, a gold earring weighing around 1.5 annas and a motorcycle were also seized during the drives.

DMP said the operations were part of its regular law enforcement efforts across the capital. Legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are underway, police said.
